Please help me the analysis and questions
1) Prism- Order of Colors. Sketch the prism, the incoming light ray, and the ray (broken up into colors) after passing through the prism. irec Bondan ongle 19 r. olor 2) Acrylic Block. Include your actual tracing (similar to Figure 5) with this data sheet. You have to draw the normal to surface 1 and the normal to surface 2 to measure the following angles. Explanation / Answer

Analysis

1)    1 * sin40 = 1.495 * sin(theta)

=> for blue light angle of refraction = 25.46   degree

=>   1 * sin40 = 1.476 * sin(theta)

=>     for red light angle of refraction = 25.816   degree

2)     At surface 1

=> index of refraction   = 1 * sin29/sin17 = 1.65

At surface 2

=> index of refraction   = 1 * sin29/sin17 = 1.65

3)   Theorotical value of critical angle =    sin-1(1/1.5)   =   41.81   degree

     Experimental value of critical angle =    43   degree

Questions

1)   When white light passes from air into a acrylic block, violet bends the most and red bends the least. Yes, it agree with our analysis of bending of red and blue light .

2)   Yes, we expect the outgoing ray to be parallel to the incoming ray .This is also supported by the data in the experiment .

3) Brightness of ray of light internally reflected , grows brighter and reaches a maximum value when angle of incidence is equal to critical angle . After that as the incident angle increases , the brightness remains constant .

4)   Red light has a larger critical angle than violet light . This shows that red light has lower index of refraction than violet light .
