Question
H. You watched a video on YouTube showing a pair of strong, circular bar magnets attached to either end of a battery.
When this setup is placed on a conducting surface like all aluminitun sheet, it starts to roll without any additional pushing
or prodding. Are the magnets attached. To the ends of thc battery with like poles facing each other or opposite poles facing
each other? Why does that matter? Where does the setup get its energy to roll? What is the "circuit"that allows electric
current to fow and how do the magnets then act on this current to produce forces that ultimately push the system? [NOTE
Do not try to answer this question qumtitatively aii the actual system is probably too hmd to analyze in detail. Focus on
the concepts and. pririciples that allow you to explain what is happening.]
Explanation / Answer
opposite poles facing each other otherwise circuit will be broken, from battery current starts flowing. it is rolling because of torque. as a current carrying loop in an external magnetic field experiences torque.
