Question

Analysis of bird feathers and scales of reptiles indicates that they share many structural and chemical features, which has led to the conclusion that bird feathers may actually be modified scales. Birds are closely related to reptiles, as birds are direct descendants of dinosaurs. Thus, modern reptile scales and bird feathers were probably inherited as modified traits from a common ancestor. Do you think this evidence indicates that scales and feathers are homologous traits, vestigial traits, or examples of convergent evolution? Briefly explain your answer

Explanation / Answer

Scales has developed into feathers and this show homolougous trait as there anncestoer are common with commom function as well. They all use the same initial signaling system to create place where something grows out of the skin, which is more subtle. Previously it was considered this is as an convergent evolution but later when researcher find out they share a common function they considered it as an homologous function.
