Question

You're bungee jumping. Tne path form is 59 m high over wtWr. The by new cord has an unstrained length of 7 m and when stretched it acts like an ideal spring with a constant of k = 66 N/m. You fall from rest. assume your mass is 70 kg. How close do you come to the water? You're bungee jumping. Tne path form is 59 m high over wtWr. The by new cord has an unstrained length of 7 m and when stretched it acts like an ideal spring with a constant of k = 66 N/m. You fall from rest. assume your mass is 70 kg. How close do you come to the water?

Explanation / Answer

given, L = 7 m

let y is maximum extension of the cord.

Apply conservation of energy

Initial gravitational potentail energy = final elastic potentail energy

m*g*(L + y) = 0.5*k*y^2

70*9.8*(7 + y) = 0.5*66*y^2

4802 + 686*y = 33*y^2

33*y^2 - 686*y - 4802 = 0

on sloving the above equation we get

y = 26.3 m

minimum distance from water to you = 59 - (y + L)

= 59 - (26.3 + 7)

= 25.7 m <<<<<<<<<-------------------Answer
