Question

7 Problem Set4 Name *5. You want to determine how egg color is inherited in chickens. You know that character is autosomal. You have true-breeding white populations, true-b blue populations, and true-breeding brown populations. When a brown genotype is crossed with a blue or white egg genotype the F1 generation has brown eggs. A Cross between blue egg and white egg genotypes results in F1 with white eggs. Use this information to answer the following questions. (6) reeding A. If the egg color is determined via allelic interactions (single gene), provide the genotypes for each of the 3 true breeding phenotypes, and provide a molecular explanation for each of the three egg phenotypes. (3) B. Assume egg color is determined via gene interactions (2 genes). Assume crossing true breeding blue genotypes with true breeding brown results in F1 progeny with brown eggs. Furthermore, if those F1 are intercrossed the resulting F2 phenotypes would be in a ratio of 12 brown: 3 white: 1 blue. Provide the genotypes for the F1 and F2 phenotype. Describe this type of epistasis and provide a molecular explanation/biochemical pathway for the phenotypes in the F2 generation. (3)

Explanation / Answer

There are three colours in the egg and in these 3 colour, brown colour in most dominant,it's means if there are a allele for brown gene then it definitely will be brown.

And if there are allele for brown is absent then there may be white or blue in colour but in there two white is Dominant and blue is recessive.

Let's consider the genotype of the three colours gene:-

Genotype for the brown colour egg:- BBWW × BBWW in these self cross all the characters will be brown.

Genotype for the second colour white is :- bbWW× bbWW in these all the characters will be white.

In blue colour all the genotype is bbww × bbww in these all the breeds is blue.

If there are a capital B it will be always brown in colour but when b is small and one or two W is capital it will be white in colour. And when all four is small then it will be Blue.

Thanks.
