The bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis has a number of adopted strategies to evade the immune system of the host. Hip1 is a serine hydrolase which is known for reducing the inflammatory response of the host and get rid of any sort of macrophage activation. This leads to progression in the disease as the immune system of host is weakened. GroEL2 protein is a substrate of the Hip1 protease and the serine protease inhibitors prevent its cleavage. The proteolysis with help of Hip1 helps in understanding the regulatory mechanism that enables the Mycobacterium to change the immune system of the host during its infection. Thus, Hip1 can be identified as an impactful target that inhibits development of therapeutics for the bacteria. It is observed that the Mycobacterium due to facing hostile conditions evolved and led to weakening the immunity of the host cells. The Hip1 factor helped in modulating the activity and assisted in the whole process of imparting immunity. The GroEL2 proteins also plays an important role and the Hip1 was able to cleave the GroEL2 where it was transformed from a multimeric into monomeric form of the protein. Since the regulation of the Hip1-GroEL2 together led to protease activity and in turn increased the infection due to host immune weakening.
