Explanation / Answer

Hi,

To draw the graph, you will need the values. I assume you have it and will explain how to use them.

1. Problem- Is enzyme activity depends on the temperature of the solution.

2. Enzymes act on specific substrates and convert them into products. The enzymes can fasten the rate of reaction bybreducing the activation energy. The enzymes have an active site where the substrates are converted to products. Enzyme activity generally depends on several factors such as substrate concentration, product concentration, temperature, pH, presence not inhibitors. The activation energy is lowered by binding of enzyme to substrate and thus makes the products faster. It does not change the eauiliequil but only attains it faster.

In this experiment, we assessed the role of temperature in catalase enzyme activity. Catalase is an enzyme which can detoxify the Hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen. It is an antioxidant.

IndelendInd variable: enzyme Concentration,

Dependent variable: evolution of gas bubbles, temperature.

The Hydrogen peroxide was added to solution of catalase enzyme. The enzyme produced the oxygen gas which was determined by the observer. The temperature of the set up was kept at 4 degree Celsius. Another expt was done by imcreasini the remptempera to 35C. The gas formation in both the cases is monitored and plotted on a graph.

The gas formation was found to increase with the rise in temperature. At 37 C the catalase activity was the highest. Cold inhibits the enzyme activity.
