Question

i need a justification for the difference between the two graphs. the green graph is for shm. there is a phase constant that comes into play. maths' student normally know about the grey graph. so how can we use their knowledge to explain the green shm graph to them.

and what difficulties students normally encounter in shm (simple harmonic equation)

Explanation / Answer

the green graph doesnot start from y=0

it means that when we started observing the simple harmonic motion of the body, it was not at equilbrium position y=0. the body had already started the motion prior to our observationa and was at a distance of 0.1 m in the positive direction from the equilbrium position.so the green graph doesnot start from y=0 for theta= 0.

problems encountered by students in shm;

most of the times students find problems in understanding the concept of phase difference in shm.
