In an elevator, a loose .400kg square ceiling tile is only held in place by the friction force from the four currounding tiles (the coefficient of static friction between the tiles is .500) If the normal force from each tile is 2.00 N what acceleration of the elevator will cause the tile to fall on an unsuspecting person's head? In what direction must the elevator be accelerating for this to happen(how did you find out with way it should accelerate please)

Explanation / Answer

Due to one tile the frictional force is fs = o.5 * 2 =1N

due to four tiles it is 1*4 =4N ( this is the total upward force)

the weight is 0.4* 9.8 = 3.92 N ( downward)

the acceleration of lift should be (4-3.92)/0.4 = 0.2 m/s

this acceleration shoul be upward
