Question
The circuits in Figures 2A, 2B and 2C contain identical batteries and bulbs. The dashed box is used to identify the part that varies between the three circuits.
Which of the three bulbs, B1, B2 or B3, will be the brightest? Which will be the next brightest? Which will be the dimmest? In each case, please explain your answer.
a) They are all equal
b) B1 is the brightest, B3 is the second brightest, and B2 the dimmest.
c) B1 is the brightest, B2 the second brightest, and B3 the dimmest.
d) B2 is the brightest, B3 the second brightest, and B1 is the dimmest.
e) B3 is the brightest, B2 the second brithest, and B2 the dimmest.
f) B3 is the brightest, B1 the second brightest, and B2 the dimmest.
g) B2 is the brightest, B1 the second brightest, and B3 the dimmest.
Explanation / Answer
B2 is the brightest, B1 the second brightest, and B3 the dimmest
this is becaue net resistance of B3 is largest as all the bulbs are in series, in B2 case resistance will be lowest because two bulbs are in parallel which reduces the net resistance of the cirsuit when compared with B1 case
