Question
4. Three masses are located on a coordinate grid. Mass A (3 kg) is located at the point (4, 5), mass B (2 kg) is located at (1, 0), and mass C (6 kg) is located at (-3, 4). Find the coordinates of the center of mass of this system. 5. Suppose I push mass A from the previous problem to the right with a force of 5 N. Find (a) the acceleration of the center of mass and (b) where the center of mass will be three seconds after I start pushing. You don?t have to find the new location of mass A and redo #4 to get this right!Explanation / Answer
4. x- co ordinate of system = 3x4 + 2 x 1 + 6 x -3/(3+2+6)=-4/11
y- co ordinate of system = 3x5 + 2x0 + 6x4/(3+2+6) = 39/11
5. acceleration of cm = 5/11 m/s^2
x position = -4/11 + 1/2 x 5/11 x 9 = 37/22
y position = 39/11 + 1/2 x 5/11 x 9=123/22
