Question

You are stranded on a deserted island. There is no sign of human civilization, but there is an abandoned Radio Shack. You should probably build some sort of radio, but instead you want to build a cathode-ray television from scratch. You start off by building an electron beam using a set of 3 cm by 4 cm metal plates you have found (and some other stuff). The electron beam uses two capacitors to direct the electrons, as shown below. In the first capacitor, electrons are released from rest on the negative plate and shoot towards the positive plate. They pass through a small hole to exit the capacitor, before they enter a second capacitor which deflects them. The operation of the two capacitors are independent, the small hole has no effect on their operation, and each electron only experiences an effect from the capacitor it is currently within. Ignore the thickness of the plates. The first set of plates are charged to +/- 7.5 nC. How fast is the electron travelling when it leaves the first capacitor In order to deflect the electron by 15 degrees, what should the charge be on the plates of the second capacitor

Explanation / Answer

given that

in order we observe the speed of electron in first capacitor v ={2q^2 d /eo*A*m}^1/2

the charge is 7.5 nC

the distance d=1 cm

the area of capacitor =12 *10^-4 m2

eo =8.8542*10^-12 m

mass m=9.1*10^-31 kg

the speed of electron ={[2*7.5*7.5*10^-18*10^-2]/[8.8542*9.1*10^-12*!0^-4*9.1*10^-31]}^1/2

={112.5*10^-20/80.6*12*10^-47}^1/2

={116.3*10^-3*10^27}^1/2

=10.78*10^12 m/s

the speed of electron in first capacitor is 10.78*10^712 m/s

if electron having on some diffelecton angle =15

but second capacitance C=e0A/d

=[8.8542*10^-12*12*10^-4]/10^-2

=106.25*10^-14 F

the potential difference V=q/c

=1.6*10^-19/106.25*10^-14

=15.5 *10^-8 V

the charge on the plates of second capacitor= cv cos(theta)

=106.25*15.5*10^-22 cos(15)

=1.59*10^-19 C

i am trying please send comment immeadiately plz plz
