Question

21/2016 11:55 PM@ 567/1004/1/201610:39 AM Print 1Calalaior Periodic Table stion 13 of 13 apling loaming Suppose that a particle accelerator is used to move two beams of particles in particular region, electrons move to the right at 9350 m/s and protons move to the left at 3034 m/s. The particles are evenly spaced with 0.0476 m between electrons and 0.0322 m between protons. Assuming that there are no collisions and that the interactions between the particles are negligible, what is the magnitude of the average current in this region? e directions. In a Number Amps

Explanation / Answer

  Electrons: 9350 m/s / 0.0476m = 196429 electrons / s

Protons: 3034 m/s / 0.0322m = 94224 protons /s in opposite direction

so effective number of charge carriers is 196429+ 94224 = 290653 per second

1 Amp = 1 coulomb / s = 1 / 1.6*10^-19 charge carriers /s = 6.25*10^17 /s

So average current is 290653 / 6.25*10^17 A = 4.65 * 10^-13 A
