Question
1) Can you think of how the electromagnetic induction described by Faraday's Law might be used to make an electric motor?
2) What is the source of the observed force acting on the paddle swings as they pass through the magnetic field?
3) Why does the forked paddle experience very little induced force, while the slotted paddle is significantly slowed and the solid paddle is brought quickly to a halt?
4) In raising a paddle you have given it potenital energy. Where has this energy gone after the paddle has come to a stop?
Explanation / Answer
1) yes, if we rotate a coil in a magnetic field the flux will change through the coil and due to changing flux an emf will be induced. 2)when it passes through magnetic field current flows due to induced emf and a magnetic force acts due this current. 3)large amount of flux change through solid and slotted paddle than forked paddle due to their large area and hence a large amount of emf is induced this leads large current and large amount of opposing torque to stop the paddle. 4)the energy gets converted to electrical energy
