Conceptual Dynamics Kinetics: Chapter 9-Particle Impulse & Momentum P9.1-5)fe Ball A and ball B roll, in the same direction, with the following masses and initial speeds: ma = 5 kg, mB = 10 kg, v4 = 4 m/s and VB=2 m/s. After ball A collides with ball Bit | moves in the opposite direction with a speed of v'= 1 m/s. Determine the direction and speed of ball B after the collision. - l' P9.1-5 a) = 4.5 m/s b) ve' = 3.5 m/s c) ve'= 2.5 m/s d) ve' = 1.5 m/sExplanation / Answer
because there is the momentum conservation in the collision
so initial momentum = final momentum (taking initial direction is positive)
ma * va + mb * vb = ma * v'a + mb * v'b
5*4 + 10*2 = 5 * ( - 1 ) + 10* (v'b)
v'b = ( 20 + 20 + 5 ) / 10 = 4.5 m/s
