Question
Shown below is a Decircuit that contains two switches. The resistance of each switch is a negligible when closed. All of the connecting wires should be considered to have zero resistance. All of the resistors shown are identical. The circuit contains an ideal ammeter and an ideal voltmeter. The diagram shows the switches open. Beside the diagram are four different switch configurations for the circuit. Rank these configurations from largest to smallest in terms of the voltmeter reading. Rank these configurations from largest to smallest in terms of the ammeter readingExplanation / Answer
For the voltmeter reading
When S1 is closed the voltmeter reads zero hence for C and D , V = 0
Now when S1 is open the voltage drop can be written as
in case A
v = V0/4
in case B
v = Vo/2
Hence the order will be
B > A > C = D
Now The ammeter readings will depend on net resistance in all the cases so let's see
Case A
I = V/4R
Case B
I = V/2R
Case C
I = V/3.5R
Case D
I = V/1.5R
Hence
D > B >C > A
