1. Evidence based practice (EBP) is an approach for taking care of patients integrating the values of clinical expertise, patient values and research evidences. Clinical expertise is based on clinicians's experience and professional skills. The goal of EBP is to provide best clinical practice giving preferances to patient's decisions, expectations and values combined with clinician's skills and evidences from scientific research development.
2. Dependent variable in research is the factor under study. It is being experimented and it depends on other factors and independent variable. Independent variable is the factor which does not depend on other factors and can not be changed. For example, an experimental study to determine how extent protein affects the growth of a child of certain age and in certain time period, say 6 months. Here, time and age are independent variables which do not depend on other factors and can not undergo any change. The amount of protein used in the study is a dependent variable which is up to the experimenting scientist.
3. Research designs are of two types- correlational and experimetnal. A correlational design is a study in which the researcher emphasizes the associations among naturally occuring variables. The experimenter is not able to make a change in this study. But an experimental design is a study in which the researcher introduces a specific experimental condition and monitors its effect. For example, study on relation between cigerette smoking and low grade in studies of students. Here the researcher can not compell the students for smoking and reach the final result. Instead, the researcher approaches naturally grouping students who smoke and do not smoke and he reaches to the final result.
4. Reseach hypothesis is part of scientific research method. It is a guess leading to the experiment and final conclusions of the scientific findings. The structure of hypothesis is an educated statement describing the guessed fact. Before writing a research hypothesis, the factors and previous study designs of the same experiment should be considered. Hypothesis is writen whether it is correct or incorrect followed by the scientific explanation of the result.
A research question arises from a doubt or clarification regarding the matter and it is part of heuristic research methods. The strucure od a research question contains question words or 'WH' words. During writing a research question, researcher has to pay attention only to the phrases and structure of the question. The researcher just answers using phrases giving scientific findings.
