Question
The resistance of a galvanometer coil is 3.70 ohm, and the current required for full scale deflection is 347 mu A. Calculate the resistance of a shunt, R_5, that would covert the galvanometer to an ammeter reading 500 mA full scale. Compute the length of nicrome wire necessary to construct a shunt whose resistance is 0.172 ohm The diameter of the wire is 2.05 mm and its resistive is 53 times 10^-8 ohm-m The resistance of a galvanometer coil is 11.7 ohm, and the current required for full scale deflection is 267 mA. Compute the resistance of the voltmeter multiplier.Explanation / Answer
full scale current is 267 mA.
that means when 267 mA current passes through it, it will show full scale deflection.
if we want to measure 500 V at full scale deflection.
then our arrangement have to like that 267 mA current will flow when connected to 500 V.
so resistance of apparatus must be :
V = I R
500 = 267 x 10^-3 x R
R = 1872.66 ohm
so We have to add a resistacne in series such that Req= 1872.66 ohm
hence Req = Rv + 11.7 =1872.66
Rv =1860.96 ohm
