Find the image distance i and the lateral magnification m of the object, including signs. Also, determine whether the image is real or virtual, inverted from object O or noninverted, and on the same side of the lens as object O or on the opposite side.

a) for diverging lens, focal length is negative.

f = - 32 cm

object distance, o = 14 cm

using lens equation,

1/f = 1/o + 1/i

1/(-32) = 1/14 + 1/i

i = - 9.74 cm

B)magnification = - i/o = - (-9.74) / (14) = 0.70
