Question
(Be dear and concise. Typing work is strongly suggested. Will thumps up depending on the quality of work done.) Four lightweight, plastic spheres, labeled A, B, C, and D. are suspended from threads in various combinations, as illustrated in the figure. It is given that the net charge on sphere D is +Q, and that the other spheres have net charges of +Q, -Q. or 0. From the results of the four experiments shown in the figure, determine the net charge of spheres A. B. and C. sphere A - sphere B sphere C Suppose particles A, B, and C in the figure have identical masses and charges of the same magnitude. What is the sign of the charge for each of the three particles? Particle A Particle B Particle C Explain.Explanation / Answer
We know,
Like Charges Repel Each other while, Un like charges attract each other.
1b)
From Figure it is clearly evident,
A & D are Attracting Each other, So Charge on A = -Q
B & D are Repelling Each other, So Charge on B = Q
C is same with both B&D, So charge on C = 0.
1c)
We can see Magnetic Field is out of the page,
Force on the positive charge would be in Downward Direction & Upward for Negative charge.
Charge on C is positive, as it moves in the Downward Direction.
Charge on A is negative, as it moves in the Upward Direction.
Charge on B is negative, as it moves in the Upward Direction.
