Stomach ulcer occur due to the painful open sores on the lining of stomach. Stomach lining provide protection to stomach from the digestive juice. Inflamed stomach lining often leads to gastritis. Stomach ulcer is also known as peptic ulcer.

Digestion is a catabolic process where the breakdown of food particle occur. This process is mediated by HCl (acid) and various other digestive enzymes. In case of normal condition, stomach lining gives protection to the stomach from gastric juice (acidic) by secreting mucus. But in case of ulcer condition, this stomach lining becomes thin and inflamed, which leads to gastritis accompanied with painful sores, indigestion, etc.
