Question

Multiple-Choice Homework Problem 14.9 Use the directions for the currents drawn on the diagram. Write the junction equation for junction j drawn on the diagram. Select One of the Following: (a) I1 + I2 + I3 = 0 (b) I1 = I2I3 (c) I1 = I2 + I3 (d) I1 = I2 ? I3 (e) I1 = I3

Multiple-Choice Homework Problem 14.10 For the circuit to the right, with R1 = 5.0?, R2 = 10.0?, and R3 = 15?, and ?V0 = 6.0V. What is the current flowing through R3? Select One of the Following: (a) 0.22A (b) 8.2A (c) 0.041A (d) 1.1A (e) 0.73A

Explanation / Answer

Problem 14.9   => Option (c) I1 = I2 + I3

.....
Problem 14.10

As given in the question,

R1 = 5 , R2 = 10 , R3 = 15 and V0 = 6 V

Resultant resistance:

  R(eqv)  = R1 + (R2*R3) / (R2 + R3)

= 5 + (10*15) / (10 + 15) = 11

The net current in the circuit,

I(eqv)  = V0 / R(eqv)  = 6 / 11 = 0.545 A

The current flowing through resistor R3,

I3  = I(eqv)*R2 / (R2 + R3)

   = (0.545)*10 / (10 + 15) = 0.22 A ........................Option (a)
