Question

1. A person applies a 2.0 N force tangentially to a 6.0 kg turntable (disk) that has a radius of 3.0 m which accelerates from rest for 2.0 seconds. What is the final angular velocity in rad/s? (Use sci. notation)

2. A net force of 10.0 N is applied tangentially to the rim of a wheel having a 0.25 m radius. If the rotational inertia of the wheel is 0.500 kgm2 , what is its angular acceleration (rad/s2)?

3. A person applies a 3.0 N force tangentially to a 5.0 kg turntable (disk) that has a radius of 3.0 m which accelerates from rest for 7.5 seconds. What is the final angular velocity (rad/s)?

Explanation / Answer

a) vt = u+at*t

at = tangential acceleration = f/m = 2/6 = 0.33 m/s^2

vt = 0.33*2 = 0.66 m/sec

v = rw

w = v/r = 0.66/3 = 0.22 rad/sec

2) torque T = I*alpha

r*F = I*alpha

alpha = 0.25*10/0.5 = 5 rad/s^2

3) vt = at*t = (3/5)*7.5 = 4.5 m/s

v = rw

w = 4.5/3 = 1.5 rad/sec
