Describe how green plants affect the abiotic environment in ways that are advantageous to humans. Describe how green plants affect the abiotic environment in ways that are advantageous to humans. Plants increase water supplies that humans can use for drinking, irrigation, or industrial use. Plants build soils required for human agriculture and forestry. Plants release carbon dioxide that we breathe. Plants release oxygen that we breathe. Plants hold soils required for human agriculture and forestry. Plants remove salts from water so humans can use it for drinking, irrigation, or industrial use.
Explanation / Answer
The Major components of abiotic environment are water, soil and atmosphere.
Plants absorb Carbon dioxide from air and releases oxygen. Thus plants decreases green house effect and slow down the process of global warming. Oxygen in the environment also increases which is required for other living organisms to survive.
Plants holds the soil together especially in flood prone(mangroves) and hilly areas preventing flooding and landslides respectively.
Certain plants like legumes help in fixation of nitrogen in the soil. Nitrogen fixation increases the fertility of soil which will inturn lead to increased production of farming without using artificial fertilizers.
Plants provide food and shelter to other organisms. Plant are primary producers in the environment. Barks of certain trees, dead and decaying body parts contribute to the initial stages of soil formation.
Plants also remove salt from water bodies making it fit for human use.
