Question
Newtons Third Law.
1. When you are sitting in a car that is braking, you feel your body is being pushed forward. Based on your physics knowledge, what is the direction of your acceleration (forward or backward) at the moment?
When you are sitting in a car that is turning around in a circle, you feel your body is being thrown outward. However, your physics knowledge is telling you that your centripetal acceleration is inward (toward the enter of the circle). How would you reconcile this? ( please state your thoughts as clearly as possible).
Explanation / Answer
Solution a: - When we sitting in the car which is running, our mind are moving with the same speed as of car. When the breaks are applied suddenly our body gets the jerk in the forward direction due to the law of inertia. Hence the acceleration will be in forward direction.
Part B: - When a body is moving in a circle there are two forces which act on the body. Centripetal force and centrifugal force, both the forces balance the body. The body is being thrown out due to the centrifugal force.
