Question

Sometimes, conservation biologists believe they do not need to take into account the possibility of evolutionary change in the organisms that they are interested in conserving. The argument is that anthropogenic (human induced) changes such as invasive species, habitat loss, pollution, and even climate change, occur on too rapid a timescale for evolutionary change to influence the organisms they are trying to manage.

Discuss whether you think this argument is correct, or if you think evolutionary biology relevant for conservation biology? Find an example or two to support your argument.

Explanation / Answer

I think evolutionary biology is relevant for conservational biology because conservation biologists main aim is to protect the species and their habitats from endangering extinction. for that complete understanding of its evolution is very much important evolutionary biology which is nothing but origin and adaptation of life over periods or decades.

for example we heared of tiny creatures called cave dwelling animals shrimp or crabs where to save their energy and sensing navigating is done by smell . they almost loss the parts associated with their brain.. and evidences states that the sensing of touch and smell are increasing..which is an natural effect.

Another example was the commonly known that human growth were increasing based on the evolution so far from astralopithecus to homo.there is a lot of evolutionary changes takes place where the astralopithecus to humans evolutionary change make the humans being dominate all the species. So for every decades evolutionary changes takes a major role in conserving the habitat so far.
