Question

A few years ago, a lady was sitting on her back deck after putting her baby down for a nap.  The doorbell rang, and her beagle began barking at the little kids who came to collect cans for their food drive.  She ran in the house to quiet the barking beagle who was trying to wake up the sleeping baby.  Unbeknown to her, the bottom of her shoes were wet from the deck and as she took her first step on the tile floor of the kitchen, her foot twisted and her knee cap dislocated.  As she lay on the floor, she began to think about the transformer in the doorbell that started this series of events.  The transformer steps down the voltage from the house line of 170 peak voltage, to 16 peak voltage for the doorbell.  If the maximum current in the house line is 175 mA, what is the maximum current within the doorbell?

Explanation / Answer

AS We know that the energy in the transformation process remains same the product of V and I will remain same.

V1*I1 = V2*I2

170*175 = 16*I2

I2 = 1860 mA
