Question
Three rods each have a heat conductance of 30 W/K combinations of one or more of these rods can be used to conduct heat from o ne temperature to another. The rod combination which results in the largest heat conductance Is placing all three rods in series placing all three rods in parallel using just one rod placing two rods in series some other combination. The resulting heat conductance is W/K, The rod combination which results in the smallest heat conductance is placing all three rods in series placing all three rods in parallel using just one rod placing two rods in series some other combination. The resulting heat conductance is W/K Pacing one of the rods in seri" with the parallel combination of the other two rod, will result in a heat conductance of W/K.Explanation / Answer
Conductance is Inverse of Resistance, So
(a)
The rod Combination which results in largest heat conductance is,
:- Placing all the three rods in parallel.
C = 30 + 30 + 30 W/K
C = 90 W/K
(b)
The rod Combination which results in smallest heat conductance is,
:- Placing all the three rods in Series.
C = 1/(1/30 + 1/30 + 1/30) W/K
C = 10 W/K
(c)
For Parallel,
C1 = 30 + 30 = 60 W/K
C = 1/(1/60 + 1/30)
C = 20 W/K
