1)a 50 N box is suspended by a rope from an overhead support. if horizontal force of 30 N is applied to the box, the determine the angle the rope makes with the vertical. answer is 31 degrees

2) A 1 N picture is supported by two strings that run from its upper corners to a peg on the wall. if each string makes a 20 degree angle with the verticle, find the tension in each string. answer is 0.53 N

3)a weight of 1 kN is suspended from the end of a horizontal strut 2 m long that projects from a wall. a supporting cable 3 m long goes from the end of the stut to a point on the wall above the strut. find the tension in the cable. answer is1.34 kN

4)one end of a plank 5 m long is supported 1 m above the ground. a 5 kg box on frictionless wheels is placed on the plank. determine the force(parallel to the plank) that is needed to keep the box stationary. answer is 10N

5)a 1 kg ball travelling 5m/s strikes a wall at right angles and bounces back witht he same speed. determine the change in the ball momentum. answer is -10 kg/ms

Tsin(x)= 30

therefore x= 31

2) 2*T*cos(20) =1

T =0.53N

3) T*cos(x) =1000

T =1000*3/sqrt(5) = 1.34N

4) mg*sin(x) = 5*10* 1/5 = 10N

5) -mv-mv = 2mv =2*5*1 = -10 kgm/s
