Question
Problem 2. The table attached at the end of this document provides information about the motion of a box in three difference cases. In each case, the information given about the motion is in one of the following forms: 1) the algebraic form of Newton's 2nd Law, 2) the free-body diagram for the box, and 3) a written description and picture of the physical situation. For each case, complete the table by filling in the information that has been omitted. You may use additional sheets of paper if you need more room, but please make it clear where we can find your answers. All symbols in the equations represent positive quantities. Use a coordinate system in which the positive x-direction is to the right and the positive y-direction is toward the top of the page. Key: B-box, H-hand, S-surface, E-Earth, R-massless rope, R1-massless rope, R2-massless rope.Explanation / Answer
(1)
first box
F = ma
third box
The net forces on the box is not zero becuase the thension forces on the box acting in the positive y direction and weight of the box is acting downward ( - y direction). from the diagram the net downward force is more than the upward tension force so box is moving downward direction

(2)
second box
to the left ( - x direction)
third box
the vertical forces acting on the box is zero, the horizontal force acting on the box along negative x direction so box will move toward left side.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(3)
F = (m_truck + m_box ) a
second box
to the right
