Question
"A fish is swimming in water inside a thin spherical glass bowl of uniform thickness.
(A) Assuming r=27.0cm, locate the image of the fish if the fish is located at the center of the bowl. Assume the fish is small."
My final answer was di=27cm. I had used the equation 1/f = 1/do + 1/di, and defined my values to be f=13.5cm and do to be 27.0am. I had calculated di to be +27cm. However, it turns out the answer was supposed to be negative. My question is how is the radius of curvature in this equation negative?
Explanation / Answer
Here the radius of curvature is negative because , Light is going from water to observer ( as the observer is seeing fish from out side) outside.
