Question
I have an assignment due discussing how evolutionary change MIGHT orccur for a particular trait of a species (theoretical change) using the 4 postulates - and no clue how to get started even thinking of a theoretical trait change...or choosing a species. HELP!? this is supposed to be a 3-4 paragraph discussion board assignment, and maybe I am making it more difficult than it is, but I don't see how this topic could be covered in 3-4 paragraphs...I must also descripe what the population starts out as and what it will look like in the future as a result (theoretical) ??? I am stumpedExplanation / Answer
You're right! I think you are making it out to be a lot harderthan it is! Relax; this isn't so bad! So, we know that naturalselection is when a particular trait is advantageous and is thuspreserved and amplified over generations. If it is completelyhypothetical, you can really choose any organism you want! Butlet's say, for example, you choose mice. The original proportionsof the mouse colors might be 33% gray, 33% black, and 33% white.Keep in mind, that you can fluff this scenario up as much as youwant. You could separate the mice into nocturnal and non-nocturnalas well. Anyway, suppose you said they were all nocturnal. As aresult, directional selection will likely occur (black mice will beselected for) because the black mice will blend in better withtheir environment. The ending population might look something like90% black, 10% gray. These are just some ideas to get you started. If you need someextra stuff to make it longer, you might talk about *The genotypes that make up the mice...call pp = white, Pp =gray, PP = black. * The fact that if the environment changed for some reason, brown and white mice might come back in numbers. This is becausewhite gene is still preserved despite the fact that no white miceare around. Pp and Pp could mate to express a pp again. It is therecessive advantage! =) I am also not sure what you mean by the 4 postulates. Buthopefully this gets you on your way! If you need any further helpdon't hesitate to message me back. Good luck.Related Questions
