Question
You push a box across a frozen lake. The mass of the box is 25 kg and has a volume of 0.7 cubic meters. If you push the box a distance of 20 meters while applying a force of 30 N then how much work have you done to the box? If the during that friction pushes on a box with a force of -3 N then how much work has the friction done? After 20 m how much Kinetic Energy will the box have? What will the velocity of the box be? You let of the box and the box now goes up a hill. II there is no friction on the hill then far up the hill will the box go? I throw a ball from a height of 0 m with a velocity of 20 m/s. The mass of the ball is 0.2 kg. How far up will the ball go?Explanation / Answer
C) Effective work done = Chnage in KE = 600-60= 540J
D) KE = 0.5mv2
540 = 0.5*25v2
So v = 6.57 m/s
E) Maximum height obtained by the box can be calculated by conservation of energy as at that point
KE = 0 or KE will entirely be com=nverted to PE
So
mgh = 540
25*9.8*h = 540
So h = 2.20 m
2) Again using conservation of momentum
At highest point Final PE = Initial KE
mgh = 0.5mv2
h = 20.41m
