Question
An object is front of a concave (conerging) mirror forms as image with a Lateral magnification of -1.025. Based on the sign of magnification, is the image upright or inverted, and briefly why? Again, based on the sign of magnification, is the image real or virtual, and briefly why? If the distance between the object and the mirror is s = 90 cm, what is the distance s'. between image and the mirror? Now having the values of s and s', calculate the focal length of the mirror. Starting from the object, draw a ray diagram, and find the image while keeping to the scale as best as you can, using a ruler.Explanation / Answer
(a)lateral magnificaton = negative so we can clearly say that image will be inverted
If magnification is negative ,it means image height will have negative value if object height is considered positive so it will be inverted image
(b)Since image is inverted .the image will be real
(c)magnification=-di/do (di=image distance,do=object distance)
-1.25=di/90
di=-112.5 cm
(d)by mirror formula
1/di+1/do=1/f
f=450 cm
