Question

A box with weight 74 N is on a rough horizontal surface. An external force F is applied horizontally to the box. A normal force and a friction force are also present, denoted by n and f. A force diagram, showing the four forces that act on the box, is shown in the figure. When force F equals 4.8 N, the box is in motion at constant velocity. When force F equals 6.23999977 N, the acceleration of the box is closest to:

0.23 m/s2

0.26 m/s2

0.32 m/s2

0.19 m/s2

0.29 m/s2

0.23 m/s2

0.26 m/s2

0.32 m/s2

0.19 m/s2

0.29 m/s2

Explanation / Answer

here,

let the frictional force acting on the box be ff

mass of box , m = 74/9.8

m = 7.55 kg

when force applied is F = 4.8 N , there is no accelration

F - ff = 0

ff = 4.8 N

when the applied force , F = 6.24 N

let the accelration be a

F - ff = m*a

6.24 - 4.8 = 7.55 * a

a = 0.19 m/s^2

the accelration of the block is closest to 0.19 m/s^2
