Question
A)Find the expression of the velocity of the first car.
B)Find the expression of the velocity of the second car.
C)Find the expression of the position of the first car.
D)Find the expression of the position of the second car.
E)Where is the first car when it stops?
F)Where is the second car when it stops?
Two cars on a straight road at time zero are beside each other. The first car, traveling at speed 30 m/s, is passing the second car, which is traveling at 24 m/s. Seeing a cow on the road ahead, the driver of each car starts to slow down at 6.0 m/s2. Represent the motions of the cars mathematically and on a velocity-versus-time graph from the point of view of a pedrian 60 m/sRepresent the motions of the carsExplanation / Answer
Velocity of the first car =
v = u - a*t
v = 30m/s - 6.0m/s^2 *t
Velocity of the second car =
v = u - a*t
v = 24m/s - 6.0m/s^2 *t
Position of the first car =
S = ut -0.5at^2
S = 30 *t m/s - 0.5 *6t^2 m/s^2
Position of the Second car =
S = ut -0.5at^2
S = 24 *t m/s - 0.5 * 6* t^2 m/s^2
Time taken by 1st car to stop -
V = u + a*t
30/6 = t
t =5
First car when it stops is at -
S = 30 * 5 - 0.5 * 6 * 5^2
s =75 m
Time taken by 2nd car to stop -
24/6 = t
t =4
Second car when it stops is at -
S = 24 * 4 - 0.5 * 6 * 4^2
s = 48 m
