PRINTER VERSEION BACK NE Chapter 18, Problem 03 that each touches the others. Then they are Four identical metallic objects carry the following charges: +1.26, +6.91, -4.89, and -9.74fC. The objects are brought simultaneously into separated. (a) What is the final charge on each object? Explanation / Answer

Here ,

as the metal spheres are identical ,

the potential on each sphere will be same after touching ,

hence , they will have equal charges after touching and seperating ,

charge on each object = (1.26 + 6.91 - 4.89 - 9.74)/(4)

charge on each object = -1.615 uC

the charge on each object is -1.615 uC

b)

as the charge is neagitve , there are excess electrons

number of electrons = total charge / charge on each electron

number of electrons = 1.615 *10^-6/(1.602 *10^-19)

number of electrons = 1.01 *10^13

the number of excess electrons is 1.01 *10^13
