final velocity of larger marble is v2

a)

using conservation of momentum

-10 * 0.40 + 35 * 0.15 = 10*v1 + 35 v2 ----(1)

as the collision is elastic , coeffcient of restitution = 1

v1 - v2 = 0.40 + 0.15 ----(2)

solving 1 and 2

v1 = 0.46 m/s

v2 = -0.0944 m/s

velocity of smaller marble is 0.46 m/s

velocity of larger marble is -0.0944 m/s

b)

change in momentum of small marble = m*(vf - vi)

change in momentum of small marble = 0.010 *(0.46 + 0.40)

change in momentum of small marble = 8.6 *10^-3 kg.m/s

change in momentum of small marble is 8.6 *10^-3 kg.m/s


change in momentum of larger marble = 0.35 (-0.0944 - 0.15)
