Question
You are the nursing director in a skilled nursing facility. While you are assessing Mrs. Corneu, one of the residents, she volunteers that she wishes Maria took care of her during the day rather then Tran. When asked why and she responds, "Tran always chatters with the other assistants in her native Vietnamese, and I can't understand what she is saying. When they laugh while they assist me, I know they are making fun of me. Maria does not speak her native Spanish around me. I don't like to be ignored."
How would you address Mrs. Corneu? What actions, if any, would you take? Discuss how you feel when others who may be serving you are speaking in a language you do not understand.
Explanation / Answer
I would address Mrs. Corneu by making sure her needs are fulfilled. I will make sure she never feels further problems on this matter. I will try to as much as possible for her. I will also ask tran to mrs. corneu that if she has any language problems. I will ask maria to assist mrs.corneu in further assessing and make sure to that maria does not use her native spanish.
Yes i feel bad. Because i cannot understand his/her language and while they speaks in their native language it feels like they are making fun of me. Whenever they laugh due to some joke or dialogue, it feels like they are making fun of me, which feels too bad.
