That year, Dwayne Douglas, the assistant football coach at the time, asked Robert Cade, a kidney disease specialist at the university, why his athletes were losing so much weight after games and practices, but urinating so little. Cade quickly determined that the players were sweating so much that they had little fluids left to urinate. Answer a: electrolytes like sodium and potassium maintains the membrane potential of the cells and helps in the regulation and flow cell signals from one part of the body to another. They also maintains the osmotic pressure of the cell. If these electrolytes will come out while sweating then the membrane potential will get change that will effect the flow of signal and will also imbalance the working of cells. It will also effects the osmotic pressure of cell which can cause the shrinkage or bursting of cell.
Answer b: water alone is not enough to alleviate the dehydration at cellular level. Because at cellular level concept of precise hydration comes. At cellular pevel electrolytes maintains the entry and exit of the water in the cell.
Answer c: Sports drink contains the balanced amount of electrolytes which helps to alleviate the dehydration at cellular level.
