Question

You have read in the text that of the two charged bodies to the right of the large charged dome in the Figure below, the one with greater charge (larger number of “+” symbols representing positive charges) has more electric potential energy in the field of the dome, but the electric potential of each body in the field of dome is the same Explain.

2. Imagine that such charged rubber balloon was placed against a metal wall. Will it also stick?

3.If you capture a positron and make it orbit the antiproton, what do you get? What is the mass of this atom compared to a mass of hydrogen-1?

Explanation / Answer

a)

Electric potential at a point in the field of a charge is given by :

V = k*Q/r

where k = 9*10^9

Q = charge of the body

r = distance of the point from the body

As potential does not depend on the charge of the charge at the point . So two bodies which are at same distance from the dome will have same potential.

b)

Yes it will also stick as it will polarize the metal wall
