Physies 16 PHYSICS 160 Version I Qu. 38: Oscillations and Waves 5 10 N/m) behaves as a perfect simple harmonic A mass (250 kp) on a spring (k325 ) How many complete oscillations does the mass undergo in (u osciilator , 1.0 minute? (1 mark How many oscilations does the object undergo in 1.0 minute if you double the oscillations does the obj (1 mark) amplitude? Sketch the displacement and velocity of the object as a function of time on the graph below. Start the oscillations at the top of the motion. Make sure yo label the graphs as displacement and velocity. (un) sure you 2 marks)

Explanation / Answer

1) we know angular frequency, w = sqrt(k/m)

= sqrt(3250/2.50)

= 36 rad/s

Time periode, T = 2*pi/w

= 2*pi/36

= 0.174 s

so, no of oscillations in one minute, N = 60/T

= 60/0.174

= 344

2) same ( time period does not depend on mass)

3)

4) increases

5) ramains same ( spring constant does not depend on length of the spring)
