Question
X X X X d) er to the figure above which shows a square loop of wire traveling with velocity v entering a region of uniform magnetic field. What happens as the loop enters the field region, and why does it happen? Please describe this in words, not equations. e) The maximum capacitor voltage of an ideal LC Circuit is 8 V, and the period of oscillation is 1 second. A second circuit is identical, except there is a small resistance added to the circuit. Make two sketches, one for each circuit, showing the capacitor voltage versus time. Assume the voltage is maximum at time t 0 for both circuits.Explanation / Answer
d) When the square loop of wire enters the field region the electromagnetic field in the loop is zero because there is no changing flux and there is no induced electromagnetic field.
When leaving the field the coil no experiences a magnetic force to the right because the right hand side will be out of the magnetic field so no force will be on it. The current will be moving clockwise to counter the decrease in flux. The force on the top and bottom portions of the loop will cancel. The only remaining part is the left hand side.
When entering the field the coil no experiences a magnetic force to the left side. The current will travel counterclockwise to counter the increase in flux. The only portion of the loop in the field that matters is the right hand side which will produce a force to the left.
