identify a research or evidence-based article that focuses comprehensively on a specific intervention or new diagnostic tool for the treatment of diabetes in adults or children. In a paper of 750-1,000 words, summarize the main idea of the research findings for a specific patient population. Research must include clinical findings that are current, thorough, and relevant to diabetes and the nursing practice. Prepare this assignment according to the APA guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required. This assignment uses a grading rubric. Instructors will be using the rubric to grade the assignment; therefore, students should review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the assignment criteria and expectations for successful completion of the assignment. You are required to submit this assignment to Turnitin. Refer to the directions in the Student Success Center. Only Word documents can be submitted to Turnitin.

A brief summary of the research conducted in the Evidence-Based Project – Paper on Diabetes.

A descriptive and reflective discussion of how the new tool or intervention may be integrated into practice that is supported by sound research.

Explanation / Answer

Diabetes is one of the most common and quite expensive chronic diseases. World it is estimated that 415 million people are suffering from diabetes in the world, which is estimated to be 1 in 11 of the world's adult population. Approximately 46% of people with diabetes are still undiagnosed due to poor awareness, poverty, and lack of medical facilities.

In United States about 23.1 million populations is diagnosed with diabetes which is quite expensive. The highest rates of diabetes are found in poor and older Americans; however, across the United States, the overall prevalence continues to increase as overweight and obesity rates rise. Individuals with diabetes are at greater risk with many common problems, such as heart disease, hypertension, depression, pain, etc. Therefore, it is the need of time to develop a cost effective and early diagnostic tool to check the onset of this disease when metabolic abnormalities of diabetes are less rigorous.

With rising obesity levels it is sometimes complicated for doctors to differentiate between type 1 diabetes (treated with insulin injections) and type 2 diabetes (controlled via diet and weight loss).

Lifestyle changes are vital in case of type 2 diabetes. As it is a well known fact that the sedentary lifestyle and over nutrition lead to obesity and overweight and eventually also increase the risk of diabetes. Intercessions that improve these factors have beneficial effects on control of glycemia in established type 2 diabetes. Weight loss has beneficial effects on glycemia as well as it also reduces the chances of abnormality in blood pressure and atherogenic lipid profiles. They also improve other chances of obesity. Apart from lifestyle changes, there are several medications or glucose lowering technologies are commonly applied nowadays to treat this condition. The glucose lowering medication therapy depends on the patient’s condition which is determined on the basis of their intrinsic characteristics, duration of diabetes, baseline glycemia, and previous therapy among other factors.

Apart from these treatment, new diagnostic tool are needed to detect it initially. The new diagnostic tool is devised a test which checks almost 20 -30 genetic variants in DNA and combines all the risks associated with them in a single score, which can then act as a synopsis of genetic risk for type 1 diabetes. There are two conditions; when the person's score is high they are likely to have type 1 diabetes and when the score is low then it will be type 2. By using this DNA dignostic tool, it would be quite easier for the medical practitioner to treat their patients.

Hence, the patients suffering from type 2 diabetes do not need insulin treatment. Thisdignostic technique may save people with Type 2 diabetes from being treated with insulin unreasonably, and also reduce the number of the exceptional but quite serious cases of Type 1 diabetes being initially treated with tablets inappropriately and running of the risk of severe illness."
