Here we can take 3 documents sucha as Lincoln steffens,excerpt fromShame of the Cities,Andrew Carnegie "wealth" and Thorstein Veblen ,excerpts from "Theory of the Leisure Class".In three of these documents they are mainly focusing on money and materials and utilization of their wealth in different ways.Three of the documents have three different views regarding the utilization of money and materials.Lincoln Steffens article is promoting the efforts to clean the city's corruption and muncipal corruption.in his study he is stating that the buisness men are the sources of this corruption in our cities.They are maintaining bribe fund in the local bank.He is concluding his document by saying that the problem is not been solved till now in muncipal government in America.Andrew Carnegie document is based on the philosophy on observation that most of them are wasting their life due to riotous life or living rather than nurturing and growing them.He is disapproving the charity work and he is stating that there is no guarantee and he promoting a new mode of giving gift to the poor or the beneficiaries And the giftwould notbe simply consumed ,it would be productive of even greater wealth through out the house.He is opposed against luxurious lifestyles and promoting them to recirculate the money back in to the society where it could be used to support the greater good.He is arguing against the aristocratic chains of inheritance and support the dependents by their work and and the bulk of excess wealth to be spent on enriching the community.Thorstein Veblen article on excerpts from Theory of the Leisure Class,introduced the concepts of "Conspicuous consumption" and of the Conspicuous leisure.Here the Conspicuous consumption means the utilization of money and material resources towards the display of higher social status is limited to the leisure class.They have spend their limited income or wages due to the working classes and activities.The lower classes consume expensive alcoholic beverages and narcotic drugs,why because the working classes seek to maintain standard in their life and play of leisure class and social manners are a result of of the non-productive ,consumption of time by the upper social class.Here we can see the conspicuous leisure is the application of extended time utilize for the pleasure.The leisure class is composed of people in lowe class,they will practicing economically productive occupations,here the manual occupation is percieved as a sign of social and economic weakness.Conspicuous leisure lies in their wastefulness of time and resources.Thus we can conclude that in the three of the articles they are explaining the utilization of money and materials in different ways.They are having different views regarding the utilization of time,money and materials in an effective way.
