Question
Suppose point A is 75.2 V higher potential than point B
A)How much work must be done to move a +450 uC charge from point B to point A?
Show all formulate and work!
B)Suppose the +450 uC charge has mass 24.0g. It is placed at point A, and released
it from rest. With what speed will the charge arrive at point B? Show all formulas and work!
C)Suppose now that point A is 2.30cm from point B, and the electric field(potential gradient) between the points is constant. Find the electric field between point A and point B. Show all formulas and work!
Explanation / Answer
A) Formula for work done is w = q*deltaV
w = 450*10^-6*75.2 = 0.03384 J
B) From the work energy theorem
W = change in K.E
W = 0.5*m*v^2 - 0.5*m*u^2
since it was started from rest initial speed u = 0 m/s
then W = 0.5*m*v^2
From problem A W = 0.03384 J
then 0.03384 = 0.5*m*v^2
0.03384 = 0.5*0.024*v^2
v^2 = 2.82
v = 1.679 m/s
C) Electric field E = deltaV/r = 75.2/0.023 = 3269.56 V/m
