(a) What length of wire do you end up with?
m

(b) What is the diameter of the wire?
mm

#20a4michelle please help me, thank you As part of a class project you are given 0.900 g of nichrome and asked to fabricate a wire with uniform cross-section. You use up 95% of the nichrome and make a wire with a resistance of 0.803 ?. The resistivity of nichrome is1.00 (a) What length of wire do you end up with? m (b) What is the diameter of the wire? mm 10^-6 ? · m and its density is 8.31

Explanation / Answer

volume of nichrome = mass/density = 0.9*10^-3*0.95/(8.31*10^3) = 1.03*10^-7 m3

R = rl/A

so, R = rl*A/A*A

but, l*A = volume

So, R = r*V/A^2

So, A = sqrt(rV/R) = sqrt(1*10^-6*1.03*10^-7/(0.803)) = 3.58*10^-7 m2

a)

l = V/A = 1.03*10^-7/(3.58*10^-7) = 0.2877 m

b)

A = pi*d^2/4 <----- d = diameter

So, d = (4A/pi)^2 = sqrt(4*3.58*10^-7/3.14) = 6.75*10^-4 m = 0.675 mm
