Question
A student attemps to make a simple generator by wrapping a long piece of wire across a cylinder with a cross sectional area of 1.361E-3 m2. She then passes the coil between the poles of a horseshoe magnet with a magnetic field of 2.4E-2 T. The student finds that by removing the coil perpendicular to the magnetic field lines during 0.25 s, an emfo of 151 mV can be induced. How many turns of wire are wrapped around the coil?
Please show work so I know where I made my mistake. When I worked this problem out, I came up with 1109.47 turns but it was incorrect.
Explanation / Answer
Apply EMF = NBA/t
.151 = (N)(.024)(1.361 X 10-3)/(.25)
N = 1156 Turns
