Question

1) A certain fluid has a density of 8.652×102 kg/m3. Suppose a container with a volume of 2.740×10-4 m3 is filled with this fluid. What is the mass of the fluid?

2) a) Suppose you weigh 684 N, and when you stand on one foot, your weight is spread out over an area of 1.220×10-2 m2. What pressure does your foot exert on the floor? (Check out the book or online for the correct unit. Remember that there is also a blue help button if the units are inconsistent.)

b) Atmospheric pressure is around 1.010×105 Pa. Think about the air pushing on a flat, circular glass window which has a radius of 0.0880 m. What is the force with which the air is pushing on one side of the glass?

Explanation / Answer

Denisty of Fluid = 8.652 *10^2 kg/m3
Volume of Container = 2.740 * 10^-4 m^3

We know,
Density = Mass/ Volume
Mass = Density * Volume
Mass = 8.652 *10^2 * 2.740 * 10^-4 Kg
Mass = 0.2371 Kg
Mass of Container = 237.1 Grams
