Question

To throw the discus, the thrower holds it with a fully outstretched arm. Starting from rest, he begins to turn with a constant angular acceleration, releasing the discus after making one complete revolution. The diameter of the circle in which the discus moves is about 1.6 m .

If the thrower takes 0.90 s to complete one revolution, starting from rest, what will be the speed of the discus at release? Answer in m/s in two sig-figs.

I'd appreciate an answer that shows all of your work. I've tried multiple methods and can't manage to get the correct answer. Thanks!

Explanation / Answer

by using the formula

C = pie*D = 3.14 * 1.6 = 5.024 m

v = 2C/t

v = 2*5.024 / 0.9

v = 11.164 m/s
